Ground-loop temperature

This is the temperature of the fluid circulating in the ground loop — the average of the water entering and leaving the heat pump — not the deep-earth temperature. Undisturbed earth here stays near 55°F all year, but the loop fluid swings around that: it runs warmer in summer (it carries your home's heat down into the ground while cooling) and colder in winter (it pulls heat up out of the ground). So loop readings in the 70s–80s°F in July are normal heat rejection during cooling — the earth isn't actually that hot.
